ERIN JAE is an enigmatic singer, songwriter, model, artist and poet based in London.
Born and bred in Coventry to a very musical family, Erin’s passion for singing and songwriting stems from an early age, after being exposed to her father’s eclectic vinyl collection comprising of the likes of Bob Marley, George Benson and Stevie Wonder, to Nina Simone, Glen Miller, Diana Ross and Fleetwood Mac.
Honing her skills in her mid-teens by taking part in regional singing competition Teen Idol, which led her to being managed under Big Help Management, Erin then decided to up sticks to London in 2012, to take her music further. Since settling in the Capital, Erin joined the prestigious Roundhouse, becoming a lead vocalist and songwriter in the Roundhouse Music Collective, as well as a member of the internationally acclaimed Roundhouse Choir where she was fortunate to pick up backing vocalist gigs with the likes of M.I.A, Jamie Cullum, Angelique Kidjo and Reef. Erin has also featured on Channel 4’s The Big Narstie Show, as well as in Rudimental’s music video for Lay Your Hands featuring Ed Sheeran. For the past two consecutive years, Erin has also been a part of global hit-maker, Carla Marie Williams’ GIR #GetHeard initiative – a movement which champions ‘ones to watch’ young female singer-songwriters and provides a platform for their music to be heard and appreciated by the most influential people in the industry.
Erin released her debut EP last autumn, with three of the tracks receiving airplay on BBC Introducing. With her distinctively beautiful vocals and songs which scale from sweet summery pop-soul chill through to neo-gospel melancholic vibes, Erin’s sound has been compared to the likes of Nina Simone, Laura Mvula and even a ‘female version’ of Mercury Award winning Benjamin Clementine. With lots of experience already under her belt, the past year has seen Erin climb to even greater heights, performing in the Royal Opera House’ Return of Ulysses at the very beginning of the year, as well as iconic venues including The Half Moon Pub (Putney), L’escargot (Soho) and world-class jazz stage at The Maze in Rio de Janeiro. Erin also took part in the international songwriting competition Coffee Music Project 2019, and the Mayor of London’s Gigs 2018, which saw her perform at an array of high profile sites across London.
And if that isn’t enough, Erin is also a model, poet, artist and Sofar Sounds presenter. She is currently embarking on an exciting exhibition under the moniker EJG; publishing an array of provocative and empowering pieces centred around body image, race, class and female empowerment.
